In 2014 the Museum of London embarked n a number of contemporary collecting projects addressing gaps in its holdings. Our role in the Islamic fashion project was very much as objective facilitators, as we planned to explore a topic that was relatively unfamiliar to us.
Our theatrical design background informed our approach to the project, borrowing from the costume design process.
During our sessions we explored perceptions and stereotypes, as well as the religious reasons behind Muslim dress, through open debate and design activities. Sessions with members of of MoL staff helped participants to gain an understanding of the acquisition process.
